Abchurch has extended its social media practice, reflecting the growing expectation amongst stakeholders that PLCs, corporates, and businesses seeking early stage or later funding, have a substantial social media presence.
Social media advice is now available from Abchurch in three main packages:
Abchurch has been providing social media advice to many clients for some time, but in the wake the recent developments in the United States of America where the SEC has commented favourably on social media as reasonable method of communicating financial information, Abchurch believes that social media is now an essential medium of communication for all PLCs.
The Securities Exchange Commission (“SEC”) in the United States of America announced recently that publicly quoted US companies will be allowed to post their on earnings on Twitter or update their status on Facebook as long as investors have been notified prior to publication of where find company information. The SEC issued this guidance in the wake of Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings, posting viewer figures on Facebook rather than through an SEC filing or news release. The United Kingdom is expected to follow suit shortly.
A presence on social media is crucial for the modern day plc as Boards and management teams are expected to be more engaging and accountable to their shareholder and stakeholders.
A strict strategy is needed, with audits, planning and preparation key to any successful foray into social media.
Julian Bosdet, Senior Partner at Abchurch said: “The use of social media by PRs for media relations is something which Abchurch has been at the forefront of and practising for some years now.
“Where we see the real change being is social media having a direct benefit to clients, whether that is generating new business leads through LinkedIn or direct interaction with clients’ target audiences through Twitter. We also envisage significant change for the PLC landscape, with the United States taking the lead with the SEC’s recent recommendations for PLCs to engage with social media. The United Kingdom is sure to follow suit soon.”
