Abchurch has taken on its second apprentice from Tower Hamlets’ award-winning social enterprise and apprenticeship trainer City Gateway. The apprenticeship program was pioneered as part of the Evening Standard’s Ladder for London campaign. Abchurch was quick to enrol in the scheme and was named as one of the Evening Standard’s First 100, a roll-call of organisations who have enabled 100 apprentices to start work within 100 days of launch of the Ladder for London campaign. The campaign aims to get unemployed young people into paid apprenticeships.
City Gateway, graded “outstanding” by Ofsted, engages school leavers and unemployed young people in vocational training programs and matches them to suitable apprenticeships, which last for one year. They also continue to train the apprentices for the first six months to complete intermediate or advanced Business and Administration National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).
