Based around President Obama’s inaugural year, Abchurch’s “New Office, New Thinking” reception last evening attracted top speakers and an impressive guest list.
Jock Whittlesey, Environment Counselor to the U.S. Embassy, kicked off the session with his thought-provoking comments on the role of the US in promoting the clean technology cause and the strength and continuing importance of the “special relationship”. The baton was picked up by Stephen Hammond, the Shadow Transport Minister and Wimbledon MP, who spoke about the Conservative belief in the crucial importance of public transport in helping the UK to lead the environmental revolution. He also highlighted Conservative ambitions to facilitate the progression of technology in the UK. Claire Dorrian of the London Stock Exchange then gave invaluable insights on the impact of the Obama regime and looked forward to what the future may hold in the UK, including the importance of fiscal incentives for companies to reduce their environmental impact. Tamsin Omond, of environmental action group Climate Rush, completed the speeches with an impassioned plea for everyone to work together towards finding solutions. Tamsin also used the gathering to announce that she would be running as a Member of Parliament this year, later revealing the constituency as Hampstead & Kilburn.
The 100+ guest list represented Abchurch’s own cleantech clients, other businesses from the sector, specialist “green” investors, the media, Regulatory bodies, The London Stock Exchange, and of course the wider City intermediary community including analysts, Corporate Financiers, and brokers.
Hosted in Abchurch’s new offices at 125 Old Broad Street, English bubbles and locally-sourced canapés made sure that the hospitality matched the overall event.
Abchurch CEO Julian Bosdet said: “We were delighted with the success of the first sector gathering at Abchurch’s new office. We have been building an Environmental specialism within Abchurch for over five years and it has become the leader, offering communications advice across the Environmental sector from fledging businesses to very large companies.
“Abchurch continues to promote the clean technology revolution by bringing people and businesses together. The green team at Abchurch thank all who attended for such a strong turnout, which meant that everyone gained something from the evening, including a growing appreciation for fine English wines!”
